Yet another towing ?

Dh has a 2011 ford f350 srw with the 7 something lol engine.( all i know is it isnt the 6 something he claims is crap hah). We found a pristine 2004 36 ft fifthwheel w 5 slides. Truck towing capacity says it will pull it,but loaded weight stated on trailer says no. Wtcrap??? You know so much more than us,please help!!!!

FWIW if any of the stickers say no believe them. As I recall if it works it will not be pleasant. Fivers have two problems. Overall weight of the combined rig and weight in the bed from the hitch load. You want to be in the safe range with both.

Some numbers would be necesarry, along with more detailed information about the truck and trailer.

Is the truck a diesel? Crew Cab, Super Cab, or Regular Cab? Does it have 4wd?

What brand and model trailer? What's the GVWR of the trailer? What's the payload of the trailer?

Your statement that the truck's towing capacity says it will pull but the loaded weight says no doesn't make any sense.

Yes it's very possible for a trailer's weight, to be within the factory's listed max trailer tow weight rating , but the pin weight that the trailer will put on the trucks rear axle will overload the the rear axle of the truck . Particularly a SRW .
JMHO: A 5 slide 5er is heavy unit and best towed by a 450 DRW.
Friends towed their 37', 3 slide, 5er , for 4 years with a 350 DRW.
then traded up to a 35' , 5 slide , and then had to up-grade their truck; to a 450; to handle the extra weight. After their 6 something engine blew a head gasket on the first trip, towing the new 5er.

Well, in a 2011, if a diesel, its a 6.7L; if a gasser, its a 6.2L. Either way, the pin weight of that trailer will overload the rear axle and probably the tires also--not good.

There was no "7 something" engine in a 2011 F-350. There were only two engines available, a 6.7L diesel and a 6.2L gasoline engine.

If fit's a diesel, Ford says it can PULL a 5er that weighs up to 14,000 pounds. If the gasoline engine, then max trailer weight it can PULL is 12,000 pounds.

But the weight it can pull is not your limiter. The hitch weight you can HAUL without being overloaded is your limiter. IOW, the payload capacity available for hitch weight (pin weight) is your limiter. Your truck can pull a heavier trailer than it can haul the hitch weight of that trailer without being overloaded.

Payload capacity available for pin weight = GVWR of the truck minus the weight of the wet and loaded truck. To know for sure, you need to load the truck with everything and everybody that will be in the truck when towing, including the 5er hitch, toolbox, and a full tank of fuel. Campfire wood? That wood is heavy, so if you are going to haul your campfire wood, it needs to be in the truck when you weigh the truck. Drive to a truck stop that has a certified automated truck (CAT) scale, fill up with fuel, then weigh the wet and loaded truck.

Subtract the weight of the wet and loaded truck from the GVWR of the truck and the answer is the payload capacity available for pin weight. Divide that available payload capacity by 0.20 (twenty percent) and the answer is the maximum GVWR of any 5er you should buy to tow with that truck.

My guess? You'll be overloaded with that trailer when the trailer is wet and loaded for camping. As a very general rule, you need a pickup with dual rear wheels (DRW) to tow that much trailer without being overloaded. But yeah, leave the weight out of the truck and trailer and you might be able to squeeze by without being overloaded. But that takes discipline which reduces the joy of RVing.

Yes it is a 6.7 diesel crew cab and from what you are telling me,its a no go. I knew you all were the experts! Im just very confused with dry weight,hitch weight,cargo weight,etc. i wish i had a paper with 3 choices lol i do better with a b or c

The pin weight on most any Carriage with 5 slides is going to be in the 4000lb range. Our Carriage Carrilite weighs in at 19010 with 4850 on the pin. We are full time though.
