There's no telling how the previous owner took care of the bearings. Also no real evidence of whether the dealer did the inspection and service to the bearings when you purchased it. You're lucky you caught it before a bearing failed and broke an axle. I do my own bearing servicing, I am careful to be sure it's properly greased and tightened properly, not too tight or too loose. I also clean and inspect them before repacking with grease. A new bearing set is cheap compared to replacing the axle, chasing down the wheel and tire, etc.
