Greetings.

I am working on getting my new (to me) Travelstar 21 SB set up to go camping this weekend. I don't know the previous owners habits, or cleaning routines, so I decided to sanitize the fresh water tank and system. I filled it with water, and added the correct amount of bleach, and I let it sit for 8 or 9 hours. I opened the drain valve last night to let it drain, and it is still draining, at a slight trickle...

My question is, how fast should it drain? It seems really slow to me. Is there any way to speed it up? If I should replace it, where can I get it? I've looked online, but I'm not seeing a replacement.

Should drain fast, well under 1 hour. Assuming they used 1/2" tubing and 1/2" drain valve. Sometimes something gets inside the water tank during manufacturing (drilling debris) and it might be obstructing the exit point on the tank to the drain tubing or gotten caught in the tubing or valve. Or perhaps an insect created blockage. Try clearing it once it finally drains. Doubt it is a faulty valve.

Should drain faster than that. As an example....just returned Sunday from a trip. I estimated I had about 30 gallons to drain out of the fresh tank after I dumped. Opened the valve after dumping. By the time I had to get gas 45-60 minutes later, there was no more water coming out.

Two or three points....Are you 100% sure your opening the fresh water and not the "low point" drain plug?

On the fresh water fill area, there is also a air vent (1/2" or 3/4") hose. As I had it happened to me on another RV, it developed a "kink" and didn't let much air in to help in the filling process. Maybe the opposite is happening and a kinked vent hose is not allowing the water to drain fast enough because of a "vacuum" issue.

Our last trailer the under side of the trailer I had a clear view of the water tank. If the trailer was sloping towards the hitch or tilted towards the drivers side only half the water would come out.

I do not have your brand of trailer but my fresh water dump will drain 80 gallons in less than 5 minutes. Has a giant stream at least 2 inches across.

In answer to your questions, no, I'm not sure that what I'm draining is the "low point" drain plug. I haven't climbed under the rig, but assumed that the 1/2" tube with a valve is the drain. Seeing it hanging, I assumed that this is the drain point.

And I'm also assuming that there is not a vacuum issue going on, because the fill point to the tank that connects to the outside port is disconnected. On the outside port, there are a couple of small tabs that prevent a hose from being inserted into it. It was loose, so I pulled the hose and to fill the tank. I just ran my hose through the window and inserted into the fill tube. It was much easier to fill the tank than stand outside the rig just holding the hose to the fill port.

My Low Point drains are 1/4 turn handles and probably 3/8th pipe.

My fresh tank drains are big gate valves like the sewer but under the tanks. It'll empty 80 gallons in less than 5 minutes and comes gushing out.
