The only problem with travelling with the lp on is that tunnels on some interstates will not allow you to enter unless the lp tank is off.

Well, that is what I was thinking when the guy told me to us the gas to get it good and cold quicker. I though the frig would run on 12V while I was driving, if I turned the frig from gas to electic before leaving the house. I may be getting more confused as we go along. But, that's Okay, I'm sure I will find out for sure when I go on my maiden voyage this weekend.

modern RV fridge/freezers are 2-way propane/110vAC and are not 12v, except for the electronics.
smaller fridges, like in popups, are 3-way, since their small size can be cooled by 12v.
but not the larger ones.

The more I think of it, he may have said to get the frig cooled using gas instead of using the electric from the home or storage place.
Regardless what he said, my practice is to use the LP while traveling/moving and electric only when plugged in to AC power. Most fridges have an "auto" switch that shifts from LP to AC power if you are plugged in to shore. So, don't let your milk sour or ice cream melt! Use the LP for the fridge while traveling. That's what its made for.

I wonder if those that won't travel with the propane on, have even had the cover off and seen how well protected the flame is.

This is (nowadays) true more often than not, but some rigs are equipped with 12v-to-110 inverters to allow for 12v operation...
Guess we all need to know exactly what we have!

Just finishing the Grand Circle trip and have had the fridge on propane since I left home. Sitting here in Parker AZ for the last two days of our 12 day trip. What a great time we have had.All the great sites as well as the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. I like it better than the South Rim.
