The National Transportation Safety Board recently divulged they had covertly funded a pilot project with selected US auto makers for the past 5 years, whereby the auto makers were paid to install black box voice recorders in four-wheel drive pickup trucks and SUV's; in an effort to determine possible causes of fatal accidents. The black boxes were programmed to capture and hold the circumstances in the last 15 seconds leading up to the crash.

The NTSB analysts were surprised to find that in most of the 50 states, the recorded last words of most drivers leading up to the crashes were:
"Oh No !!"-- 21%;
"Ahhhhh!!!"--12%; and
"Oh {expletives}!!" -- 67%.

However, the states of Oklahoma, Tennessee, Missouri, Arkansas, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, Texas, and some parts of West Virginia were significantly different. In 89.3% of the cases, the final words were:

"Hold my beer, I'm gonna try somethin."

Nope, we're not making Dumont for New Years. We'll be heading South. We have some family coming in so we'll be visiting them in Palm Springs and then sneaking away to get a little riding in.

There has been a few episodes on the "Funniest Video" show that actually had someone saying that ...
"...hold my beer while I ..."
and then they show the guy slamming into something by accident right after that

But, speaking of which, ... i have had a ??? for a while, ... do they actually have some sort of boxes in some brands of new cars?
A guy here at work had a wife who fell behind in car payments during what had been a brief period of unemployment and had her car reposessed.
BUT, she had taken the car to a friend's house to store it, who had a big property, parked behind the barn, ... etc.etc. ....
but sure enough, on the very day Honda Motors had said they gave her to pay, a repo truck pulled up to the car hooked it and drove away. I mean this thing was for all intents and purposes buried underground hidden.
His wife knows for a fact that Honda cars have 'little black boxes' beaming their GPS to Honda.
Is she smart or a big dummy?

Did the Honda have OnStar (usually packaged with the nav system)? My Acura 3.2TL-S does, and if it's stolen, OnStar can track its location and advise the police.

I would say that pretty much any Nav system has the capability to xmt its location. Otherwise, no, I don't think that the cars have a "black box" that allows tracking.

It's funny, I overheard a guy at the doctors office telling a friend that the aforementioned black boxes will allow the police to shut down a cars electronics remotely....

I guess I'll have to use my old Camaro if I get in a police chase....

On Edit: There are systems for tracking cars on the the market. Usually used for parents to track their kids. But what's to stop a bank or lender from having one installed in the car? They're the owner, they can do what they want.
