Welcome to irv2.com! Glad to have you here.
When determining what your truck will tow safely, only use the trailer's advertised GVW, never the "dry weight" figure. This
fifth wheel weight caluclator is now computerized, making its use easy, accurate, and unquestionable, when matching a tow vehicle and trailer. You cannot load your belongings into a prospective trailer, so using the GVW is the only alternative. To determine the fully-loaded pin weight, a good method is to find the pin weight (as a percentage) by using mfgrs. advertised "dry weight" for both trailer and pin. Now multiply that percentage X the trailer GVW. The result will be very close if the trailer is loaded evenly. Heavy items, like a washer/dryer installed in the bedroom/overshot will increase that figure directly.
With towing a SRW truck the rear axle rating is usually the first to max out when towing a fifth wheel or gooseneck trailer.
