Dometic Power Awning
I recently had my awning fabric changed on both awnings by my local dealer. The forward one works perfectly and I have no issues with it. The rear is a different story however.
As you stand away an look towards the unit the left (rearmost) arm doesn’t fully extend causing the awning not to be level. It appears to be trying to extend to the point of it putting a strain on the end of the arm where it meets the torsion tube. Also when I retract it the motor labors badly. As far as I am aware there is no damage to the extension arm.
The dealer has no idea what the problem is!
What could be wrong? I don’t want to lead you down a rabbit hole but I was thinking,
1) Damage to the torsion tube
2) incorrect number of turns on the spring, if there were too few turns on the spring would that stop the arm from fully extending?
3) I’m not sure if there is a torsion tube on both ends, but if there is could they be loaded differently?
Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.

It sounds to me as if the awning material isn't perfectly square. If it's a bit longer on one end, once the shortest side was tight, the other would be a bit loose. If you can reach it with a ladder...measure (with awning extended) the horizontal length of the "tight" end. I bet the "loose" end of the material is a bit longer.

Not sure...if I understand you correctly, one side doesn't seem to be fully extended? I've never replaced awning material and not sure how they attach it to the roller. But, slack in one would seem it wasn't installed straight or that the material isn't square or was not installed square. Does it seem to extend normal until it gets towards the fully extended stage? I think the "tension" on the material itself is the main factor in smooth operation as it's a motor operating against an opposite pulling spring action.

Spring only in one end, usually at the rear or toward the back of RV.....does the fabric roll up evenly and centered on roller?

Bob, I think so. I’ll be able to take a closer look here shortly, I’ll let you know

When I replaced mine, There was no need to disconnect any of the arms from the roller......at the rear roller tube cap, even with the slot for the material, i made a small slot in the cap......The material folks sent a cap to temp install after removing factory cap and the torsion spring that has a tapered slot so that the material doesn't get cut while installing.....a file took care of that....
