Don't Lock Yourself Out Of Your Coach!

Moski and I found out at the Phoenix race that having only one key is now neccessarily condusive to either one of us getting into our rig should the one with the key not be present...so I vowed to her that instead of just giving her the other key, which could get misplaced , I'd put it into a key combo unit where anyone could get to it that has a combination to the box...

I got it at Home Depot, and although it was a bit pricey ($30), it will eliminate losing the keys, well...unless the unit itself gets "misplaced", but the keys are attached to the head unit which makes that much harder to do. In addition, it's got a "valet" function that will allow you to set a one-time access to the keys. I liked it so much, I got one for the house also.

In the fire service we have what is called a Knox Box key which allows the local FD to access a Knox Box which is attached to a building in the city. In that box are keys to that building or business. Since not everyone can get a Knox Box key, for the obsvious reason, we have to keep a key in our engines and rescues. We have the same lock box you just bought attached to our rigs. They work well and are small enough to be out of the way. I think I'm going to go to HD tomorrow and get one for the trailer, very good idea.

You know...I've got to be honest...I actually got one for the house a couple of years ago. I didn't want my 12yo son having a house key on his person at school, so that solved that cunnundrum. What's funny is that I only remembered it when Moski couldn't get into the coach at the races, and I always use the key inside the unit at home when our bedroom door is locked, instead of going to another door that's open!

Just another thing that could make life easier...I'm all over that one!

I actually did this to my truck, I have the spare keys to it and the trailer there.That way I do not get locked out of either. Do not ask how I learned this lesson.
