Evergreen Amped 28FS - towing problems

I'm posting for my dad who recently purchased a 2014 Evergreen Amped 28FS. He has pulled trailers for years and is having a really hard time with this one swaying. He initially tried pulling it with is Toyota Tundra, then tried with a Ford Excursion. It is swaying all over the place. He installed a sway bar and is still having issues. Like I said, he is an experienced driver pulling trailers and used to pull a 28' trailer behind his 41' motorhome with no problems, so he isn't a novice. No one here has mentioned anything about this that I can see. Any ideas?

There's lots of info on towing. Initially, sounds like the WD hitch and sway bar are not hooked up right.

Just a thought on the swaying situation of the Amped. If you're pulling with a short wheel base vehicle like an SUV or small truck, you might want to consider using a dual sway bar setup. Before buying a 5th wheel, I used to tow a 26 ft. Komfort with a Chevy Blazer and later with an all wheel drive Yukon Denali. Passing 18 wheelers and other large vehicles would cause the trailer to sway considerably. A few veteran travel trailer owners suggested to me the dual sway bar setup as a remedy to moderate to heavy swaying.

I'm sure the aeordynamics of the Amped are probably superior to my old Komfort and then later an Aljo (an awful RV!). You might do some research into dual sway bar towing to reduce sway.

Have your dad put the trailer on the scales and check the hitch weight when he is loaded. It sounds like there is not enough hitch weight with the toys in the back. You should have about 12% to 13% of the trailer weight on the hitch. He might have to move some stuff around inside the trailer to achieve that figure, then readjust the ball angle and reset the WD bars according to the specs. This should eliminate most of his sway.
