Well, time to get started, I ordered the parts for my first winter project, changing the 30A, none boost model converter/charger out for a Progressive Dynamics 80 amp unit with charge wizard. Maybe I can charge the batteries a bit faster off the generator then.

Excellent idea Tom! Don't forget to look at the wiring between the converter and the batts- that's one of the things you might have to change out going to an 80a unit- you'll need some beefy wiring for that amount!

And don't forget to post pics...

Gotta say thanks for the thought there Griz about the push/pull switch, Knew about the need for the larger size wire to the Batts (thanks Sean) but had forgot to check the switch.

You know, might be able to use that 30A piece of junk converter in the house to power my XM device...Hummm. Gosh, might have to dig out my old 400 watt mobile linear amp for my CB radio, that 30 amps should power it too.

I did go out and scope things out today. The orig wiring is all 8 gage to the batteries and ground as well as the main lead into the distribution box. Of course after that everything disappears into the walls. It'd be nice to have a wiring diagram for the trailer so a person would know how all of this is wired but I bet I can trace most of it out.

OK, I'm going to get going on this, plan is to put the converter in and then attach a new 4 gage wire from the converter to the batteries along with leaving the original 8 gage wire intact. That way it should work, no matter what.

I might take a picture if you're nice.
