I'm getting about 18-20mpg city/hwy and about 10mpg towing at 65. I'm not sure about the motorcycles, but you have to remember that the Dodge has the shortest standard bed on the market. I think it's 6'3".

Thanx for that Diirk,
Are those MPG estimates with a lifted automatic ? If I remember correctly You had a nice Fabtech lift on your truck. Wonder if I might do any better with a stock 6 speed. Although I i would be more than happy withthose numbers.

The problem with a short bed is when you get
your next 5th wheel WW, you'll curse the fact
you don't own a long bed

Yep, I have a lifted auto. That was my truck you saw at the Rally. I don't recall if the 6speed had a taller final drive ratio, I would guess the mileage to be pretty close. My mileage actually sucked for a while, but it's been getting steadily better after I passed 20k miles.

Gonna start a war here. On the Fords, (Do not know about the other makes) The difference in the 1 ton and the 3/4 is not the springs. The only difference is the 4 inch block between the axle and the leafs vs. the 2 1/2 on the 3/4 ton. Absolutely no other difference. Now as far as the weight police, yes buy the 1 ton because IF you are in an accident it is the sticker on the door frame that tells the GVWR and other #'s that dictate the amount you can tow.
Now as for your original question about the big three. I say FORD. The main reason have you ever seen a dodge or chevy ambulance? Have you ever seen a dodge or chevy truck at uhaul? Have you ever seen a class A dodge or chevy, or recently seen a class C dodge or chevy? Answer NO. The reason is all of those trucks are over worked under maintaned, and yet they are for the most part reliable and are driven every day with no day off blah blah blah. So count me in on the FORD

I too am a Ford man at heart. Allthough I agree with your opinion on Ford dominating the medium duty world I cant say I have ever heard of a heavy duty rig running an auto tranny or a ford diesel motor. Seems when you get into serious tow rigs its all about manual trannies and either Cat or Cummins diesel motors . With that taken into consideration along with the fact that I have a number of friends with newer Dodges I think I'm going to give them a shot. Friday we go to pick up a new 06 3500 srw CTD 6speed quad cab sb. Hope we made a good choice. Thanx for your input.

Nomad, nice link, but How well does it tow? I am currently brewing my own biodiesel at 53 cents a gallon I cannot complain, Course I am not out serving my country watching for terrorist any more either.

You are right all the trucks are great trucks! I just prefer the Ford and you cannot argue with the facts of what is out on the road "working". No I can't agree more the cummins is top, the ally is great too. But the over all package for me was the Ford.
