Fridge switched to gas?

Hi. Thanks in advance for info, this place helps me so much.

My fridge has been running on electric without problems, I just noticed that the yellow gas light is on, but the fridge is set to electric. Does it switch automatically? It is cold out... 39 degrees, expected to go down to 23 tonight. Is this normal, or something I should be worried about?

Typically on Auto they run on gas unless they sense 120 VAC is present. If the 120 VAC goes away they switch to gas. I would expect any refrigerator to do that despite what panel options are available as it is safer for the food and user.

If you have power and it switched it could be a failure of the 120 VAC to the unit or that the power spiked and failed to reset. I'd start by removing the 120 VAC for a minute then plug back in and see what happened. At least it's staying cold.

I would not expect the outside air to be an issue. Let's see if I am wrong. ;-)

If you post the model number you will get a better answer.

What make is your fridge? Does it have an Auto setting on it? Is there 110V. power inside the camper?
Do you have the owner's manual for your fridge?

With outside temperature like that, couldn't you just leave the fridge off and the food in a cooler outside? Just a thought...

Hi all, thanks for the input.

I found a flipped breaker... now I know not to use the electric heater and my coffee pot at the same time.

Thanks, there is indeed a lot to learn!

Same thing can be true for electric heater and microwave at the same time if you have a 30 Amp set up. Learning is part of the adventure.
