Might try finding a used MDT Crew Cab with 4 or 6 doors and get a hauler bed put on it. An example would be a road gang truck or old prison gang work truck. Interior can be re upholstered to make it comfortable vs the spartan way it was offered. Would allow you to choose almost any 5th wheel.

That set-up doesn't give your Excursion any more TQ or HP when climbing hills or mountains...It's a really bad idea in my own personal opinion, I'd want the right tool to do the job with..at min a 1 ton dually...Safety comes first in towing especially when it's my family,

I agree with others on here...BAD idea towing 5th wheel with an excursion. Before you shop for a 5th Wheel TH...shop for a quad cab 1 ton dually

In my opinion there are two options for traveling with a family of that size full time.

First choice would be a Toter Home with a 14' box and 5th wheel toy hauler. Plenty of room for travel, second living quarters, grocery & site seeing vehicle.

Second choice would be a Motor Coach with a stacker trailer with living quarters and storage for family stuff and a vehicle.

If you are set on keeping the Excursion, check out the Open Range Highlander HT31RGR. I yet haven't found a better travel trailer TH (bumper pull)
