My Newmar Kountry Aire weighs almost 19k and my Gmc C4500 topkick with the 8.1L gas engine and 6sp allison perform well.

Very happy with our Diesel. We have a 2011 6.7 Powerstroke and it does great. The newer trucks are even more incredible when it comes to towing and capability.

Diesel by all means. 6.7 Ford 440 hp/ 860 lb ft torque. Hard to match that with a gas motor. 20-22 mpg empty highway, 9-10 pulling 11k at interstate speeds

Pulling power is one thing, but stopping power favors the diesel as well.

I've got a 2008 Dodge and the engine brake built into the turbo is pretty darn strong and really helps to keep the rig under control going down a big hill. Using your head to keep the speed low is still your best bet.

i love my exhaust brake so diesel for me

I've had trouble fueling with a large fiver as well. Un hook it, put a pin lock on it and get your fuel. I didn't like stopping for fuel multiple times a day so I had the tiny OEM tank removed and a 70 gallon tank installed under the bed. Not sure if you can upsize a gasoline tank.
