sounds similar to a situation I had. check the battery disconnect switch. on my 5th wheel there is a set of cables from the onan to the battery posts. these are for starting the generator. I jumped the generator to start it and during that time some charge went through these cables into the dead batteries. once the generator started and I removed the jumper cables it used the small charge in the batteries to run and went dead in about 5 minutes once it drained the batteries. the battery disconnect was open so the batteries were disconnected from the converter and they were not getting recharged in order to continue to supply a 12 volt source to operate the generator.
