Hi all, I have been a member for a while but not a very active one since I sold my last camper.
I am now in the market for a toy hauler, but NOT the usual kind. I have looked at some Work and Play models and a few others I can't remember the brands. Here is what I am looking for but can not find.
I want a very bare/utilitarian trailer. In my mind I picture an 18 or so foot long trailer with a ramp door on back. It would be a "V" nose, with the bathroom in the "V". Have a small kitchenette on the outside of the bathroom wall with a 2 burner stove, fridge and a sink. A few cabinets for storage. The only real needs are, Fresh water tank, Grey water tank, Hot water heater, Furnace and shower. I really don't care about A/C and as far as a toilet goes I would really prefer a self contained composting unit.
I really want this to be a TRUE "WORK and PLAY" trailer. Most of the inside just open with plywood walls and floor and a white ceiling with a roof vent. Oh forgot, I would like a side door but a smaller one, 32" near the front with the travel trailer latch. Maybe a window or two, but that's about it.
I really need/want to be able to work out of this during the week, and camp on the weekend. I figure to use an air mattress and lawn chairs for the interior with a folding table.
Any ideas??

Go to the Forest River RV website. They actually have the "Work and Play" trailer that you want. There aren't many of the "V" shaped work and play trailers on the market....just not a demand for them.

Been there and looked around. The is may sound strange, but they are still to fancy. I am really thinking of an enclosed cargo trailer modified with just a few basic needs. I have been looking and there are a few companies that will modify there cargo trailer. Just haven't found the "one" yet.

It sounds like it could be an easy conversion from a car type trailer, you can order the basic style with windows and doors and build the rest.

I have never really done anything with a camping trailer. Used one, cleaned a few things but not really worked on one. Is it really somewhat easy to install the items that I mentioned in my fist post? Anything on the forum cover installation of the items? If so, please just point me in the right direction.

Its really basically carpentry, with a little electric and plumbing throwed in. You could go to my thread Total Rebuild in the vintage section where I'm rebuilding a 5th wheel toy hauler.

A buddy of mine has exactly what you are looking for. He went to utility trailer dealer and they customized it for him. Bare bones essentials with lots of storage. I think that would be your best bet. But for the money he spent he probably could have a nice toyhauler but he wanted more storage than livability.
