History of Toy Haulers

Anyone have any resources about the History of Toy Haulers?

Who made the first one, when they came to market, and how they have evolved?

Looking for good sources, can't find very much out there.

I think you will have a hard time drawing a line where a utility trailers started being built with sleeping arrangements. Race car and motorcycle teams have had sleeping quarters in their transports for a long time. Maybe researching biographies of motor sports racers would be a good source. Specifically motocross would probably be most relevant to the type of toy hauler popular today.

Almost a couple decades ago there was a dozen of us toyhaulers posting regularly on this forum. At that time there was just a small fraction of available commercial Toyhaulers as compared to today.

Of that original handful of us regulars here, one named Clark had purchased, a few years earlier, one of the original 'modern era' toyhaulers. Of course there then came along Weekend Warrior, who certainly became a big player in the industry, and then we watched WW implode as a company a handful of years later.

There obviously certainly were options available to haul motorcycles around ever since bikes were invented, but I think the more modern era of assembly line 'haulers, started popping up in popularity 25 years ago, maybe a little less then that.

That my memory of it at any rate.
