Well, Tried to hook up the portable ice maker to the inverter today. Put an amp meter in line so I could watch how much the ice maker pulls. At 7.5 amps the converter said "nope, I'm done", and that was a 300 watt inverter. Soooo, even tho the ice maker is rated at 200 watts, it isn't the truth. The compressor needs more than that to operate. So much for that little test. Either I gotta have more inverter or buy ice when boondocking. Kinda afraid of that...therefor the test before I transport the sucker and find out it won't work. Sure great when 110 is available though.

Tom,

Go to your local Costco and buy the 1500W inverter they have there for $89.00. Made by Xantac. Hook of to battery and you should have the power to run the ice maker.

Unfortunately, we don't have costco here. I'm sure there are some places that have them but I don't know if I want to do that if it pulls that much amps. Might want to leave this alone without hookups. But, thanks.

Tom:

Now remember that Clark is our REE? He knows what he's talking about...7.5amps is only 900 watts (geezzz...don't you also want the coffee pot on in the morning?), and a 2000w inverter will do the trick (probably with even a TV on while the pot is brewing)...

I think you outta spend YOUR money and get one...try www.donrowe.com...because it won't take much $1.50/bag 'o ice to chew up a few hundies- plus you already got the ice maker!!

Don't be a penny-pincher on us buddy! WE'RE gonna need ice too (ooopsss..let that slip and now you're probably thinking of being the local Boondocking Ice Vendor, huh!!!!).

My sales rep for Travel-On said the only two complaints he has consistantly gotten were the slides on the CL(I guess because is soooooo BIG), and the ice markers on any coach. I'll buy the ice on any of our trips guys.

I have an Ice Maker on my Alfa, and the first 2 trips it would make 2 batches of ice and then turn the ice bucket into a big ice block. When I took the trailer in for factory service, they adjusted it and the last 2 trips it has worked perfect. I'm still waiting for it to go out again though.

It is pretty sweet having ice there all the time.

Rod: either I'm dense, or you're (WE'RE) wishing this place had spellcheck! Sorry dude...I think you need to add more words to that on (or...it just could be me!)

Now I'm confused...are we gonna have two Ice Vendors? With the crowd we're looking at, we made need even a few more volunteers.

It's not in the class of Tom's!!! Just enough to keep refilling a couple glasses a night.

But- it's cool anyway!!!

I can see we need to chip in and help Tom with an assisted inverter install (an 'AII'?). Maybe he can wait until Moab, huh?

Best Regards,
