Looking for toy hauler
We are a soon-to-be-retiring couple looking for a decent toy hauler. Anyone have a used Excel or Newmar Canyon Star or Outlaw? We are also looking for camp host positions starting in 2015, but I guess we shouldn't worry about that now. We toured Thor and Newmar mfg. plants in Napanee and Elkart. Pretty interesting! Met a couple from Vermont, they were cool and turned us onto this spot. Maybe they will read this... Wayne & Betsy? Hi and thanks!

Toy Haulers
Anyone have positive versus negative experience with toy haulers? Any advice? Best ones, worst ones. Better to tow a trailer with our bikes?

I love my Damon Outlaw
You have the option of Class A, Class C, 5th Wheels and Travel Trailer toy haulers. Here is a list of them.

I have an Outlaw and love it.
To find a Used Damon Outlaw, just Google or Bing it.

To get more IRV2 comments and reviews on Damon Outlaws, do a IRV2 Search. Same goes with other makes of toy haulers.

DW and I have started with a Wildwood sport and had planned on moving up this year. We had looked at most of the makes and models and decided on a Voltage, until it was decided that more tax dollars was..... any ways our purchase has been put off.
A suggestion for you, if you can go to a RV show or 2, with no checkbook or purchasing power. Look at everything. Make lists. After you look at the pros and cons then go to one on the dealers you decided you liked. And then if you do better than most you will get everything you are looking in your first unit, instead of having to get the right one on the second purchase.
It is as much or more work than buying a house! If you want to get it right.
You can start today by making a pros and cons of each class... as to your need.
My opinion.............

I have had mine since last summer and have put around 6K mi on it. Here is my observation. It's kind of like a garage on a house, whether you park your car in it or not. I carry a full sized Weber grill in mine. I use it as a buffet serving room when I BBQ for a big group. I use it for a mud room when there is a hurricane passing by. (1st trip was in the path of Tropical Storm Issac). I use it as a dog run, along with the patio. I use it as a temporary storage area at home for things that need to be out of the weather. I'm sold and even if I didn't have any toys to haul, i will always have a toy hauler.

A toyhauler is great for some, but not everyone. Of course, you can tow a trailer full of your toys instead, but then you can't tow a car, and the trailer has to be stored at the campground and while it is not in use. Some folks don't want to tow anything, so they get a Smart, Fiat 500, or Scion IQ which fits inside.
Like Scottybdivin said, it's a RV with a garage...We fill our garage with dog stuff (have BIG DOGS), motorcycles, and even used it once as a separate granny flat for a long trip with family. We LOVE our Outlaw and the link in Doggy Daddy's post (above) is a good place to start about that model.
If you want a new Class "A" toyhauler, your only choices are the 2 Thor Outlaw floorplans (37LS and 37MD) or the Newmar Canyon Star 3920.
For used, there are several types that have been built over the years...see the "Sticky" Thread: http://www.irv2.com/forums/f258/clas...rs-130973.html
There is also the more rare and expensive MDT and HDT toyhaulers - or - the many, many towable toyhaulers.
Best of luck!

I recommend avoiding the Keystone Fuzion toy hauler. We purchased a new Fuzion 322 in March 2012. We call it Freddie Fuzion because it is our nightmare! It's a great floor plan and works well for the 2 of us full-timers. However, we are at 35 warranty issues (many of which were/are major issues) and still counting. The workmanship and quality it sub-standard. We are very disappointed!

From one Fuzion owner to a potential new one,...I would pass on it. Ours is a '12 399 model, and we've had too many stupid issues with it. I would steer clear if I were you.

I have the 2010 Newmar Canyon Star 3920 Toy Hauler.
The best thing I did for myself - BEFORE BUYING - is join the RV Consumer Group as they rate all RV's. The 'quality' of an RV is sure very different from manufacturer to manufacturer.
Well worth the small fee to join.
