Multiple ACs
Getting a Highlander 31rgr early next year. It'll be my first rv. It comes with a racetrack ducted 15k ac. People will be sleeping amd hanging out in the garage most times we use it. My question is, do I need an AC for the garage and/or the master bdrm, or will the one A.C. work just fine? We will be camping in places where it'll hit 100+ degrees. The trailer is 37 ft long. It'll also have the 5500 onan generator. I'm curious on your opinions, those of you with multiples and those that only have one. Thank you in advance.

Welcome! You will definitely need a 2nd and possibly a third. I have 2 in my 35 footer. One ducted (main living room), one not (bedroom). The garage is still hot. The living room will not even cool if I leave the sliding glass door to the garage open. I am considering a 3rd AC for the garage.
Even with 2 ACs blowing on high on a 100+ sunny day it is a challenge to keep cool enough for my tastes.
Anything under 100 is no problem

I'm afraid you'll have to test it to see, but one RV air conditioner for a 37' long trailer most likely won't chill the whole thing, especially a garage space that might not have full insulation like the living quarters.
Most RV rooftop A/C units require 12-14 amps to run, perhaps as much as 15-16 amps to start. As you can see, they would be very close to exceeding 30 amp RV circuits. If you have 50 amp service, you'd be O.K.
A 5500 watt generator can produce up to 45 amps, so it should handle two A/C units.

I have 2 ac's...one in bedroom hardly used. Main one is ducted and serves the garage. It needs help. If you have the option for a 3rd ac for the garage...take it.

Had a 39' Voltage. We kept the garage closed so our two A/C worked fine. One was plumbed 15,000 watt, bedroom was 13.5 non plumped. If planing to use the garage for people yes you need a third A/C for that.

If you want to stay married, you need one for your bedroom. If you want the people in the garage comfortable and you would like to be comfortable when loading/securing your toy(s), you need a third in there. If you go with 3 AC/s, you should (may need to) upgrade to a 7,000kw generator.

2 minimum as others have shared. If both are ducted and work in unison to cool, you should be fine. If the 2nd is not ducted and only cools the master, than you may have issues cooling the garage.
Our system is ducted for both units and it does a nice job keeping the whole coach cool. If you plan to keep the doors between the living room and garage closed all the time, than I would recommend a 3rd a/c especially for 100 degrees or more.

Thank you all for the input. Your answers are what I expected and what my wife was hoping not to hear. I'm the type of guy who'd rather have too much and not need it than too little and wished I'd gotten it.

"ZACTLY" the way I think about things also! As for me, this is why I have a Diesel TV that is a bit overpowered for the job that I ask it to do! When I'm up at 14,000 feet on a 7% grade I'm a happy man!!!

If you're camping up at around 14,000 ft in elevation, you won't need 3 air conditioners, you'll need 3 furnaces. Today, Sept. 16, it's snowing above 6,000 ft elevations in the Tetons.
