Griz, could you call Jim Woodcock the Onan tech I spoke to this morning and relate your experience. He is a very cordial and pleasant fellow.

Say Tom, to keep critters out of the compartments put a flea collar in them. Its what I used in Fla to keep wasps out. Nothing else went in ther either. Oh yeah, if you wrap some collar around the belly pipes the ants will leave you alone. Things you learn living in the swamp

Put the new pump in and it fired right up.(Put the spare in the storage compartment too. Not ready to trust those little guys yet)Hope that is the end of that.

HB I will call him if you want. What info is he interested in? The 1/4" line or the 3 or 4 bad pumps that we know of, or the fact that Joe the parts guy at WW says they have had alot of bad ones?

I just thought you might want to talk to Woodcock about the pump failure so that perhaps you could determine if it is a faulty pump or maybe an insuficient fuel feed. So far my genset is working fine. But then I have a 3105, so a shorter draw. Lets presume it was a faulty pump and all will be well. You "Got er

You know....do we know if the failures are electrical, as in an overdraw of current?

Each pumps has a rating on it, and if we can get Onan to tell us what the appropriate amp draw is on it, we can measure ours to see if it might be a "small hose" issue.

Mine quit pumping but still was churning, Kinda like Mikes tranny with no fluid. It was definitely mechanical not electrical. I wish I could have kept the old one. I would have liked to dissect it.

so, ... leaning to mechanical failure on these pumps, ...
... and it appears that both fuelpump vendors are using the same case (no different identifying case marks or serial numbers distinguish them)
...some vendors claim if the units are no good they blow by 10 hours ... others have had bad pumps blow at 77 (???) ...

... several people here have lost one on this forum ....
this is turning into a guessing game at the expense of the purchaser of a $5000 generator while out there boondocking

Time to buy a spare ONAN fuel pump for $60 and keep it as a spare in the ol' toolbox???

Got that right Mike. Got one in the draw already. Not going to spoil the fun over a little broken fuel pump.

P.S Still Love ya man even though you tried to get my heart rate above maximum with that flaming Chevy segment.

I agree Mike it's a sorry situation. However, since I have had 4 or 5 Onan gensets of all different ages, a couple with only a few hours and one with hundreds of hours and none that I have had any problems with; I am reluctant to put blame on the pumps. My personal feeling is that Cummings/Onan is a reputable company, and if the tec rep says there is no no tech service letter or known recall on the pump I tend to believe him. On the other hand, I acknowledge that my experience with Weekend Warrior is brief, overall I am satisfied with the product. I am dismayed with what I consider poor design, engineering flaws and flagrant cutting of corners and poor craftmanship. But then thats the story with all newer rigs is'nt it? My humble opinion, for what it's worth, is that on the effected trailers, there was not a proper flushing of the gas tank and fuel lines before putting them in service. As I said my genset is operating fine. Last night, simply for curiousity, I pumped some gas out of the tank and out comes some brown goop. What's that all about?? With Nick and Don having replaced their pumps we will see how things go. I think I'll get a spare pump also. It does not have to be an Onan pump by the way.

Hey Griz, keep the old heart rate down. You know the old saying, "what goes around, comes around". Ya gotta have pity on them.
