Ramp

Does anyone know where I can get the hinged extension on the toy hauler ramp? Our Smart car is low to the ground and we need this extra length.

How did you build yours? I've seen so many toy haulers with these extensions. Do you have a photo?

Good afternoon, you can ck out what I'm doing on the Vintage forum under "total rebuild" I haven't done the actual extension yet, I did build my own ramp door. It would be relatively easy (if you have the equipment ect.) to build the extension, you need a heavy piano hinge and build off of that, looking at the photos on some of these trailers gave me lots of ideas. you might get away with a set of ramps that you can store under the car after loading.

We use pieces of wood but was hoping to find the right hinged extension that closes when the door is put up. Guess we need to check it out at an RV Show. The url you listed isn't quite what we were looking for but thanks for the info. We found one but boy is it expensive to ship. Here's the url I found

Too bad your not closer, that one you pictured would be easy to build if thats all you need. Also not that expensive, looks like less than a sheet of aluminum and some supports under, its fastened and flips with the heavy duty piano hinge. maybe a fabrication shop locally can make it.

Hubby is very handy. But the diamond plate we find is too flimsy. So there has to be wood on the underside but then how does it lay flat when the door is up? Seems like it would be hanging out and away from the door by a couple of inches. Seems like you have to find really thick diamond plate. The hinge is the least of the problems. LOL

with a flat plate (at least on top) when it flips over to close the door it will lay flat to the door, most have a way to lock so it won't swing into the car when its closed, going down the road. You should be able to find a metal supplier to find (they might have to order) a piece of diamond plate thick enough to use, then have a support tapered under the plate welded to support the car. Your Smart car only weighs about 1500 lbs so it doesn't need real heavy parts.

Install adjustable air shocks or hydraulics to raise your car.
