Question SMALL Toy Hauler TT for Golf Cart

There are so many beautiful Toy Haulers out there, but my daughter and son-in-law are in search of a nice, smaller to mid-size 1/2 ton towable Toy Hauler that will accommodate a golf cart and sleep at least four people. (They have two children) They would love a walk-around front queen bed for themselves as opposed to a "boxed in" bed, and would like a "drop down" bed in the cargo area for the children......above fold down seating. They want a nice shower ….and decent counter space.....but want it WIDE OPEN without any "fussiness" of couches, fancy seating, etc. Suggestions?? They don't want anything too heavy which would cause them to struggle pulling it for the long haul. Thank you in advance for your knowledge!!!

That's a tall order for a half ton. How large, how heavy is the golf cart?

They need to get the specs of the truck. Some of the 2017 RAM 1500’s can pull twice as much as another depending on the configuration.

Load the truck with family, fuel and whatever they’d likely travel with and go weigh the truck. CAT scales will tell you what weight is on each axle and the total weight of the truck. Do the math and see what capacities are left to work with. The truck has a total weight limit, each axle has a weight limit and there is a limit on the total truck and trailer weight combined.

It is all about the truck they own
Once you know all that info, a lot of smaller TT toyhaulers can come into play. No use suggesting any without the truck info listed.
I would think they couldn't go 'too big' at all and mostly in the smaller toyhaulers there is that 'side bed' configuration but there are ones that have the bed walkaround and are more of a 'cargo type' open plan that might work...but again, all about the truck first.

Thank you, everyone! They have to keep the DRY WEIGHT of the trailer below 5,000 pounds (figuring in hitch weight, cargo weight, etc. of both trailer and truck, according to my son-in-law). Dutchmen makes a nice floorplan that offers a queen bed tucked back in a corner, as well as two beds in the cargo area. They REALLY liked the floorplan of the small PUMA with an outdoor kitchen, but it's just too heavy. They're hoping that maybe 2019 and 2020 will bring more SMALL toyhauler trailers with added amenities, such as outdoor kitchens, etc.

outdoor kitchen in a toyhauler probably won't ever happen--well any time soon, especially on a smaller model toyhauler. The interior toy area is all about loading toys mostly. We have a 34 ft tt toyhauler and have a 1/2 slide on the couch area which is great for our kid to sleep when traveling, but boy does it take ALOT away from the loading area. Kinda a good thing and not a good thing LOL

5,000 and under will not give you a lot of variety in shopping, mostly at rv shops, if you could 'order what you find and love' like that you have more options, but if buying local at rv it is kinda what is on the lot kinda of shopping. a lot more limited.

If they’re willing to pop up, we have ours for sale in Plano, Tx. Hauls 2,300 lbs and only weighs 3,150 lbs empty. https://www.thegreatoutdoorsrv.com/rockwood/282txr

my Impact Vapor Lite 26ft is 6100lb dry and with a golf cart is 6850lb. floor plan is wide open, with a walk around queen. I pull 8000lb with no issues with a Ram 1500. the 8 speed tranny is a peach for towing. Blue Ox Hitch levels it very nicely.

Thank you, all, for your input! They did find a PUMA with an outdoor kitchen, but it's a bit too heavy. They're looking at a Dutchman, but are waiting until Fall to see what the 2019 models have to offer.

Wow! That's a nice option, too, with a pull out kitchen.....but there isn't a bathroom. They currently have a popup, and would like to have a bathroom again.

Check out the autumn ridge mini extreme. It’s 19’. Has a 14-15’ camper on a longer frame. Front cargo deck that is 5x7. I tow with my 1500 Silverado easy. It’s gvw loaded I believe is 5100. I used my 05 Colorado to move it a couple times and it even towed it ok even though it was only a 5cyl. You can usually find them at camping world cheap. I got mine as a leftover for $10k off sticker. $12,850 brand new. Payments are like 125 a month

We bought a Gray Wolf 26RR from Cheyenne Camping Center in Iowa.
Drove there from Central TX to pick it up.
Best no haggle price.
I pull it with my F150 Ecoboost 3.5 ltr.
Absolutely no problem. Grosses out at about 7500 lbs.
Have pulled it from TX to FL and TX to Oshkosh for the airshow.
Took the 4 place golf cart to FL for Sun n Fun.

The truck can pull 11,500 they say.

I think it will do what you want.

I have a 2016 Coleman 25 foot toy hauler and it seems to fit everything they want, except it nets at 5500 lb instead of 5000 lb.

I tow it with a 2.7 ecoboost F150 and I have no problems at all. (I bought mine used and saved $10,000 off of CW's 2019 out the door price)
