3M Honeywell Thermostat
Has anyone tried to install one of these in a travel trailer? I have an analog thermostat now. We just had our home air/heat pump replaced and they installed a new wifi thermostat so I have my old thermostat and thought I could try installing it in the trailer. I installed it in the house 7 years ago and it was pretty easy. I don't really need the wifi part but having a digital thermostat would be nice. I'm not sure this is my exact model, but it's pretty close:

Upgrading to a digital thermostat is something that most of us have really liked after it's done.
The one thing you'll likely have to give up is the Hi/Lo fan speed switch. You can either pick one or the other and have it all the time, or you could (if you find it so necessary) add a switch somewhere.
It's not rocket science to install a Honeywell, but there are some wiring differences. I used the drawing below. Note that this is for thermostats that use batteries internally. Usually two AA or AAA's. If yours doesn't use batteries, it may be designed to use 24VAC, not 12VDC, and you should not rely on this wiring.
Be sure to watch that ground connection between systems. Miss it and something won't work afterward. Note that it doesn't connect to the Honeywell, and it would only if the unit was being powered externally.

3M Honeywell Thermostat
That Honeywell uses 24VAC for power, I believe your existing system uses 12vdc.
I'd be really surprised if it works. It could, depending on if the thermostat is 12vdc compatible or not.
Your stat does use batteries, but only for memory retention. Most residential thermostats are not designed for RV system usage.

It depends what brand of RV air conditioner do you have, and which revision

I understand you want to reuse the old unit. Just wanted to throw this out.
Based on a forum discussion earlier this year I picked up this theromostat and it was a quick install.

Love the digital control. ;-)

So I looked at the manual for the thermostat I listed above. I do think it is 24V so I am guessing my thermostat won't work. Thermostat diagrams on page 5 and a lot more details on page 13-18 - http://www.homedepot.com/catalog/pdf...007d27f02c.pdf
The instructions do say that the batteries are only for memory.
I watched the following video but maybe that thermostat runs on 12V -

Looks like one is for a heat pump and one is not? I didn't know RV's had heat pumps. I thought they were all an air conditioner and separate furnace.

We still don't know which brand and model of RV air conditioner you have now, the wiring is different for older vs newer Duotherm / Dometics, and Coleman's are also different in ways from the Dometics. Some you can convert to certain Honeywell / Hunter thermostats, some you can't
