Is 1 15,000btu unit enough in a 38' tt. The Jayco i'm looking at only has 1 & of course the salesman is saying thats plenty.

It depends on where you plan to travel and how cool you want it inside. Personally living in the south I say no way.

My first answer is NO!

Depending on the climate where its used maybe not.

I am currently adding a second unit to my 30 ft TT because the one 13.5 unit isn't enough in the Texas summer unless you have pretty thorough shade. Labor day weekend of '15 it hit 105 outside, we had 0 shade and the inside temp peaked about 5 pm at 92 degrees.

I'm also assuming that unit has slides. That both adds more square footage, volume and outside surface area. The last two add up quick to need more A/C especially when you consider the slide walls and roof are thinner and have less insulation in them.

My advice to you buying a large unit is to step on up day one for a unit with 50 amp service with two A/C's. Its cheaper to do it day one then to trade up or add on later.

We are rarely inside during the day so we would be fine.

No, It will not be enough. That unit requires at least an additional 13.5k unit. I was told that my fifth wheel would be fine with a single 15k. My BS meter pegged. I left the lot with an additional 13.5k dedicated to the bedroom. There were times, in the sun that even both of them on max would not keep it cool enough.

My 34' MH 1 slide came with a 11.5K and a 13.5K AC's. They worked very hard in 85º plus outside temps to keep up.

Over the years they have been replaced with a 13.5K & a 15K units. Now I only run the 13.5K until the outside is above 85º in the afternoon. Then I only need to run the 15K for maybe 2-3 hours when sitting in the open sun.

OH!! You may want the 15K to also be a heat Pump model. And add a 13.5K to the bedroom area.

When shopping new rigs recently, for the dealer to provide and install the second unit at purchase time was only $1,000 extra provided the trailer was already a 50A service and prewired for a second A/C unit from the factory.

My TT wasn't prewired and isn't 50A either. I'm doing mine myself on a separate 20A service and it's costing me about $600 for the unit and other parts/materials. I'm also including electric heat in the second unit.

I would say no as well. Better to have and not use when you are in cooler climate, than be somewhere hot and can't keep it cool. Our previous unit was 29 feet inside the box/coach and 1 was fine, but anything longer than that and I would say 2 is the minimum. MHO

We had trouble in our old TT with a single unit here in Indiana in mid July. When purchasing a new TT, I had them add a second unit. The new TT came with a 15k single, but was 50 amp and pre wired for second unit. The dealer only charged me $700 for the unit and install. I thought that was a pretty good deal.

We traded in our Jayco Greyhawk 31SS 2008 for a 2017 park model. We noticed that 4 other park model owners in our park had to add a second AC. Thus we made it part of our purchase agreement to have a second AC added. Our model is 41 feet with 4 slideouts . The unit is 50 amp and was prewired for a second AC in the bedroom. We are in New England and the past few summers have been very hot so opted for the added 15,000 btu unit. Our one unit in our Greyhawk served us well and we were always comfortable even at 95 degree temps in the sun. The AC would be running all the time, so we hope with 2 units in our new RV that they will not have to work too hard and we can keep the two areas of the RV at different temps.
