AC Remote thermostat

Our TT has a roof mounted Coleman Mach airconditioner. This unit is controlled by a rotary switch that has AC high and low settings and fan high and low setting. So the unit is basically on or off (AC or fan). It does not cycle like an AC unit in a home.
Cooling temp is controlled by another rotary knob.
What I would like to know is, has anyone changed how this unit operates by adding a remote thermostat (like the one used for the heater) to enable the unit to cycle on and off depending on the set temperature?
If so, how was this done?
Thanks

I bought a $20 digital thermostat from Home Depot, and just hooked up the wires by color. It works fine, and is programmable. I'm happy.

There is a kit you can install that will cycle the fan on and off when the compressor cycles.

I'm thinking about installing one myself in our trailer.
