Advice please about travel trailers
Hello everyone
We are retired, living in British Columbia and we are brand new to the RV world. We own a Nissan Frontier (towing capacity 6000 lbs.) and we are researching 17-19-ft. trailers. We are planning a 10-month trip around North America, including 2 months in Baja, beginning in September and are planning our trip to follow the good weather as much as possible.
Any advice you could give us on trailer selection would be much appreciated, as we are beginning to feel quite disheartened by the problems we read about on owner forums, with one or two companies in particular being the real offenders.
If you are either very pleased with your unit, or want to steer us clear of a problem product, we would love to hear from you.
Many thanks in advance,
Ginny

Glad to have you here in the forum with us. You're gonna like it here.
Sorry I can't help you with travel trailers. However at the top of the page under RV Forums you'll find a drop down for Travel Trailer discussions. That would be a good starting point for you.
Happy Trails!!!

Hi!
With that particular tow vehicle I'd look very carefully at the various eggs: Casita, Scamp, and Escape.
Even though you have a tow rating of 6000 lbs, you likely won't have the payload available to deal with a TT that heavy.
Good luck!

Good advice on the weight. Look for the payload capacity sticker in your door jamb and go from there. Everything adds up much more quickly than you expect.

Northwood | Northwood Manufacturing
I had a 22h Nash trailer built by Northwood. We pulled it through western Canada with a 1999 GMC 1/2 ton with the 5.3 engine. Excellent company.
Found out on that trip you people have some serious mountains up there!!

Many owners LOVE their Casitas[emoji3]We have a pre-loved 2011 17’ Liberty Deluxe. We tow with a Hyundai Santa Fe tow capacity 5K. We use the Anderson weight distribution hitch with Taconcha brake controller.

I'd look at any of the smaller trailers like R-Pods, GEO types. Scamps, egg types as well.

I would also check out Lance. Go to their website and build one. They give you very accurate dry, and tongue weights.

I can't help much with the trailer recommendation but I can say, do not over load your tow vehicle if going to the Baja. A blown tranny or cooler in the middle of Baja De Sur and you are looking at a long and ugly adventure to get it fixed (tow back to San Diego).
But, I have traveled in the Baja for many years and can offer advise or answer questions you may have. Once south of Ensenada you will find the people to be the kindest you have ever met. Other than the gas banditos......
If i was making that run I would have a full sized tow vehicle no matter the trailer size.

Welcome to the forum! I just want to add to everyone's caution, understand your payload, and that will add up quickly. Account for a couple hundred things you can't think of. Towing capacity is misleading in this way. A lot people people here unfortunately come across this after their purchase.
Good luck, should be a good trip!
