Air Conditioner Noise

Hi, we love our little trailer, But, being that it doesn't have ducted air/heat, that thing is noisy. This year, being so hot, we've had to use the air most nights we've been camping. Short of ear plugs, is there anything else that works? So on my must have list if we go bigger, is ducted air/heat!!

If it is fan noise, it could be dirt daubers have made their nest on the fan or a part that the fan is hitting. You can check his by removing the cover on the roof and check for them. they have a habit of doing this..and also in the furnace.

There is not much you can do about the noise on a small trailer and the A/C unit. The units are small and they have to move a lot of air and make a lot of noise. There are a few units on the market that claim to "low(er) noise", but how much lower?????

I have the same complaint in my rig. Just wanted to let you know. But then I have heard weaker reasons to get a new rig.

Post a picture of the AC from the inside. I don't mean take the plastic cover off. Just want a look at your AC from inside the RV.

I have reduce the sound of my AC's to about 1/3.

My dometic is loud also and it's no big deal till we watch movies and have a hard time hearing when the ac comes on. My brother in law has a Coleman and it's much quieter.

I have a Coleman Mach and it sounds like a jet engine on each of the 2 fan speeds. I just tell myself it's better than sweating to death.

We experienced the same issue with our previous trailer. The other part was that it never stopped running. I found out that there is a kit you can purchase that will shut it off when it reaches the desired temp but we traded off the trailer before I did the upgrade. I did not find anything to combat the noise.

Here is a picture of my modification,. The air is drawing through one end only and not the bottom fins. That area is covered inside with sound dampening material. Redirecting the intake area to the front or where you are less likely to be sitting is the goal. The vent the furthest away has not been modified by removing one end. It is inserted all the way into the Fantastic Vent area. I can now use filters to keep those things cleaner.

Thanks

Hi, all. Just wanted to say thanks for all the replies. I'm glad to know I'm not alone. It does have 3 speeds, noisy, noisier, and noisiest. Either on or off. It's a standard roof air conditioner, you'd think by now they'd have been able to make it better. Oh well, things are starting to cool down. It'll be time to heat. Haven't run the propane all night, so can't say how noisy that is. We usually use a little electric heater that does cycle on and off with the temp fluctuations..Again,thanks and happy camping!

My solution to the noisy air conditioner in my TT is noise cancelling headphones. They really work great. Add a little soft music and I'm out like a light.
