Anchoring the new electric awning

Just got a new rig with the electric awning and was wondering about anchoring it when out. Its not the one that senses wind and closes on its own- I'm still not sure how useful that is, at least as far as your stuff getting wet.

The new awning with its sissors mechanism looks a lot less substantial than the old style but is a whole lot handier since you don't have to "rassel" it. I don't really mind closing it up when not in use but it would be even better to be able to leave it out when gone for a few hours.

Anyone had any experience with tying it down like the old ones? Does it need some poles for upward support as well as downward support with tie downs and bungees?

Any thoughts?

I managed to get my old awning arms bent up in a wind storm, and replaced the electric arms with the new scissor style (Carefree Eclipse). I still have the tie downs I used in the past, but have not used them as yet. The scissor type appears to me to be much more immune to damage than what I had before, but so far it just hasn't seemed like a big deal to me to retract it when leaving the rig since we now have a switch outside. I would be interested to see if folks are tying this type out...

I have a sunscreen that I hang from mine and tie it down without supports. I do close it up when leaving and when I go to bed.
