So we all have seen when we insert our hitch in the truck receiver this
play from left to right and even up and down. So as you turn or bump
in roads you can hear the hitch.

I seen several commercial items on the internet the eliminate the noise which
most of different types of clamps etc.

Any feedback of these different items, do we really need it?

If the receiver is moving in the hitch , it's wearing , and will continue to get looser/ noisier .

We have two of them, one for the 4" drop bar and one for the actual towbar and yes they do cut the noise but also the wear.

I worry more about the wear. My 2 going on 3 year old drop as a line engraved it from the rattle. I get worried more about the wear. When I am on a bumpy road or out here in the mountain area the chain rattle roads which are very beat up from truck chains you get hear the trailer rattle a lot.....

I have a Class 5 on my 1 ton, but have the reducer for the 2" normal hitch. I saw the blue ox model BX88312 which is for the immobilizer III is design to be used on 2/1/2” receivers with a 2” adapter.

I was worried on the near $70.00 price tag on it.

I have two anti-rattle/hitch Immobilizer (Different companies, different names)

The BLUE OX one works great.. The el-chapo is junk.

I use just one.. Drop hitch to motor home..The Drop hitch was custom modified (By Blue ox) to also carry my bicycle.. Works great,,Bike does not rattle around like it did per-immobilizaiton.

I have one that I use with my wife's mobility scooter carrier. It works very well and really tightens up the carrier in the receiver hitch on my pickup.

I would think keeping the hitch receiver greased would cut down on the wear......

There was recently an article on rv travel tips that said to drill two holes in the receiver. One on top and one on one of the sides. Drill the holes so that you can thread the holes for 3/8" NF grade 8 bolt. Then you just insert the hitch and tighten the bolts so that the hitch can't move.

Sounds like a good fix.

I have an 12" extender on my hitch to accommodate a fixture to hold my Roadmaster Defender when not on the toad and to give me extra room for sharp turns to keep the toad from coming into contact with the mh. For both the extender and the tow bar, I use the standard type "U" bolts. They seem to work fine.

I would NEVER drill into the only thing holding my 'house' onto my car

We got a couple of these from amazon for the bike rack and they stopped all movement when done properly...

I have a couple of Chinese Manf. hitches that are loose (undersize tube) in my receiver(s). I first noticed it in my Ram pick-up and bought a wedge device that had a take up bolt. Got tired of fooling with that as I took the hitch off when I was not pulling a trailer. Bought a strip of .060 thick 1 inch by 2 foot aluminum at Farm and Fleet and cut some 4 inch pieces, bent over about 3/4 inch on one end tapped it in with a hammer, no more noise. Comes right out when you pull the hitch out.

I just saw the post above, we were posting at the same time. I LIKE THAT IDEA, but I'll buy a $ 3.00 muffler / tailpipe clamp.

Muffler tail pipe clamp is not nearly strong enough..

As I said I have both the Blue-Ox (Which I have used with a few different hitch arrangements).

And an El-Cheapo.. that was closer to the muffler clamp

Which is not really a good fit since there are other considerations.

Blue Ox (it appars) has changed the design from what I have but since they are a hitch manufacturer I will bet it's as good as. or better, than what I have... Very well built.

Since I have the class V hitch with a 2" sleeve to insert my drop down I think I need the eliminator III. Since DW will drive the jeep up I would like it to fit the bike rack mount once we get to the mountains. Since we store the bikes on the dinette seating area while traveling, we only need them going to the trail.

I wish only to buy one anti rattle. I guess I will call blue ox in the AM.

That's about what I paid at the GoodSam rally in Phoenix earlier this year for the RoadMaster ones.

I asked the same question over on rv.net, and was pointed in the direction oof this little device:

I haven't towed with it yet, but the driveway test was encouraging. I will be taking a several hundred mile trip in about a week and a half and will report back.
