Anyone take their trailer south of the border?

Have any of you journeyed to Mexico or further south with your TT(and let's not get into the whole "I'd never go there!! The cartels!! The kidnappings!!" thing)?

I'd like to visit Belize, Nicaragua, and other points south at some point. I wonder if a Class A or a TT would be better for that sort of thing.

I'm thinking an armoured Humvee with maybe a couple of Apache for top cover.

So that would be "No, I've never gone south of the border with my TT."

You'll get two responses on this forum-H_ll no, and, yes.

Do a google search on RVing in Mexico. Lots of info there.

I would think a Class C would be a good choice. The roads can get a little rough at times. The shorter wheelbase helps. The Tallers (Mech) have much more experience with gas rigs, and parts would be easier to come by.

An advantage of a motorhome is you do not have to get out of the vehicle to move from bed to driver.

Enjoy the trip, it has been a long time for me and the world was different back then.
SD to La Paz in 68.
Made a commercial bus trip from Mcallen TX to Mazatin and back through the Copper Canyon by train in 07. The roads have improved some (not much)

Look in to hooking up with a caravan. Lots of people head south and there's tons of videos on it.

Yes we have only in Baja down to Loreto. Not into mainland Mexico.
Many, many Canadians winter in various parts of Mexico.
For a longer trip I'd probably go with a Class C (shorter one).

I worked in Mexico a number of years ago. At that time the easiest way to tour with a trailer was with a caravan group.

I would seek a travel agency that offers these services, simply because they know the current situations. Where to go and where not to go.

Good luck
