Atwood 6A Water heater wont' light

I refilled my propane tank that went empty. After reinstalling tank, I lit the burners on the stove inside. Flipped the switch for the propane side of water heater and it will not light. Worked fine until I ran out of propane. Any ideas?
Thanks, Barb

It used to take several attempts to light mine, even after the cooktop was burning smoothly.

It may take several attempts due to the fact that sometimes the heaters are much further from propane source than other appliances. It will purge itself during repeated attempts and likely start.

For years DW and I hauled around a twenty foot 5'er. After a propane bottle refill or first time in the spring we always had trouble getting the hot water heater and furnace running. I got in the habit of starting the kitchen stove first, leaving it run on low and then moving to the two problem units and they always seemed easier to light.
