Awnings

Looks like we need to bite the bullet and replace the awning on our camper.

We've limped it along as much as possible but the years have taken their toll.

I'd like some info on the better brand names of awnings to choose from.

Let me know which ones you have experience with.

A & E and Carefree seem to be the most often used. I've had a manual A & E on our previous motor home and now have the A & E weatherpro (electric) on our current model. Both work well, although the one we have now is a dream for us to use. There are other more expensive brands on the market, all depends on what you want.

I recommend that you spend the few extra bucks to have the metal weatherguard on the awning. I've had awning both with and without the metal weatherguard, and the metal makes a world of difference in keeping the awning nice.

We got our awning fabric off of ebay and have been happy with it. Cost was a couple hundred and took about 1 hour to install. Need 3 people to do the job, but was not difficult if you have any skills at all. There are many posts and videos on how to do it. I don't have the metal guard, but that would be your choice.

Interesting, never thought of trying to change just the fabric.

I'll have to look into that...

Thanks for letting me know!

I have a Dometic power awning on mine. As per Tom's comments, it's sure a lot nicer and more convenient than the manual ones.
