Blocking for leveling

With those "lego" style blocks - if you set them up so each wheel on one side of the 5ver gets the same amount of lift, how do you span the space between the wheels when backing up?

I like the idea of weight saving, but generally I use a combo of 18" and 24" boards (with ends beveled) and 'build' a platform long enough so both wheels are supported the whole time I'm backing up.

I used the lego style blocks with adequate results (sometimes took some creative arrangements though). When I needed to get higher than normal, I'd build an up and down pattern, so the wheels were on the highest blocks, and the area between the wheels was lower.

The only problem I had was using them on gravel, while caused a couple of them to break off pieces.

I also carry a small shovel, sometimes I can lower the "hi" side easier than raise the "lo" side.
