Depends on how much but if it is soaked in grease new brake shoes are probably in order.

Doesn't seem worth the risk of not replacing to me. Also, Lippert has had an issue with hub seals leaking and greased brakes...not sure of your system and if you know how the grease got there, but you may want to check your hub seals to see if they are leaking. You can search this topic and hear others who have had this same concern.

Those easy lub hubs are often the problem. People pump grease into the hub and it forces grease out past the grease seal at the back of the hub. If you've got grease on the break pads, it's time to replace them. Repack the wheel bearings and put in new grease seals while you're in there.

Once friction has been covered in grease and the friction heated.... most bearing grease has a drop point of around 225*.... much lower than the friction.. so as the brakes get hot... the grease melts and migrates into the pores of the friction.. it will cause the friction to grab... and glaze the friction.... its now scrap... you can't clean it..
Because you really don't know the coefficient of friction of each brand of shoe.. and you even/equal braking... don't buy a 1/2 of a set... purchase a whole set and do the complete axle... so that both wheels brake at the same level... and to really do it right on a 2 axle trailer.... all 4 wheels should have the friction....

Last night I began to answer much in the same way, but I was called away by the DW. I'm glad you've answered it in a more professional way than I could've!

Thanks to all that have answered my plight.
I have since ordered 4 new brake sets and 4 new grease seals, that's the last time I use easy lube zert fittings to grease my wheel bearings. i watched a few video on replacing the brakes and it looks very easy.

It's not hard. Cleaning out the old grease in the hubs and on the old wheel bearings is the messy part. Lots and lots of paper towels. On the scale of lessons learned the hard way, this was a fairly cheap one.

When I'm done i'll have less than $200 in it. Thank goodness I can do it myself. It wasn't that bad of a lesson could have been a LOT worse.

jelag,
That was an excellent response and it was exactly spot on correct. I can't tell you how many time's I have been criticized for giving the same advice.
This issue is also why I'm not a fan of the EZ-Lube greasing system. It has ruined more brakes than one can imagine. The system does have some merit but when you ask an owner to grease the system with just 2-3 squirts of grease they won't stop at that. Most believe if 2-3 squirts are good then 4-6 are even better.

I was very carefull about using the EZ lube but still managed to grease the shoes. Replaced all 4 myself. I posted about it here and wast told that many love the system so if you like it, go for it. For me, I cleaned and packed the bearings with Mobile full syn grease and will not use the system. After you remove the wheel, it's only 1 nut to inspect the bearing.
I lost a bearing on a "never lube" bearing system and believe me that is no fun. Lucky I had AAA for the big rig flat bed and was able to get the TT on it.

I never saw the point of using EZ Lube on RV's. Boat trailers for sure, to push the contaminats out. Dexter's manual says you still need to inspect the bearings every 12K mi. By their definition, this means remove, clear of grease, visually inspect for pitting, and re-pack. There is no need for greasing the bearings through the zerks.
