Campground elect. Hookup ?

Hi all,
First time booking some campsites with full hookups now that we have a TT instead of a pup. Looking at full hookup sites some say they are 50 amp. My trailer has a 30 amp hookup. Was wondering if you find that 50 amp sites have the 50 amp hookup as well as a 30 amp receptacle to plug into. Wondering if i need to buy and adaptor or not to go from 50 to 30 just in case. Thx

Most have both receptacles but you may want an adapter just in case.

It’s very likely that if it’s a 50a site it also includes a 30a, but you never know. I would get the 50a to 30a adapter to have on hand. It can come in handy if the 30a receptacle is damaged or the breaker is weak or whatever. Gives you options. I would also get the 30a to 15a adapter, so you can plug into a standard outlet as well if needed.

It's one of those "be prepared" things. Suppose you check in to a campground where all the 30 amp pedestals are being used and only 50 amp are available. Having a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter in the RV beats trying to find an open store to buy one. My TT is 30 amp, but I carry an adapter just in case.

Get a 50-amp to 30-amp dogbone adapter. That will guarantee you'll never need it. 3 years later, ask me know I know.

Been camping for 20 years and have yet to find a site with a 50A that didn't also have a 30A and 20A (regular looking residential plug). Not that there isn't such a place out there but I've never seen it. I think I have an adapter but this got me wondering since I've never needed it.

There's one in Texas, somewhere on I10 down south, that has just a 50 amp outlet and NO breaker in the pedestal.

The breaker for every site is located on a big panel at the other end of the park.

Guess whose breaker I flipped to turn it off when I hooked up. My neighbor's and he was torqued...said everybody turned his power off.

So to the OP...carry a 30 amp adapter and a 20 amp adapter. Both available at Walmart in the automotive department.

Had a 50 to 30 adapter and never used it until our last trip we just completed. We reserved a spot in Arizona and were told all the 30s were shut off/revmoved and they are 50A only now.

It's not likely you'll ever need one but for the $20 and little bit of room they take up it's nice to say Not a Problem when told that.

I have property where I only put a 50 amp service. When I camp there I use an 50 amp 30 amp adapter.

As a camper it is a good idea to always be prepared.

I agree with the others 90+% of the time a 50 amp site will also have a 30 amp outlet, the problem is that other 1%,5%,9% where either there is no 30 amp outlet, or much more likely in my experience the 30 amp outlet is damaged/ missing.

I have, less than a month ago, topics rv resort in Spring Hill, fl. Site 115, full hookup, has 50 amp only plug. I’m a 30 amp coach, plugged in my adapter and went about my business. It’s cheap insurance if you ask me, and it gives you options if the 30amp receptacle or breaker is acting up.

Maybe these places with only 50A plugs are trying to keep Riff-Raf like me out
