Bill, BE SURE to check when you break camp and leave. Put a sign on your steering wheel or dash to remind you to lower your TV antenna if you have one. I have seen many folks rip their antenna off pulling out of the campsite!

Fixed mount Jack antennas work great!! No need to lower.

Unhook, run rear stabilizers down, unload firewood, light fire (remember not to use too much gas this time), Get cooler out, get chair out, Open beer.

My camping buddy taught me to level unit side to side with blocks or lynx levelers and chock the tires. While doing this, note position of slide in relation to obstacles.

Very next thing is to plug in electric cord. I use a surge protector that also checks the service for possible problems(grounding, polarity, etc). I want to know this before I unhitch and yes I've had instances where I've had to move. This also lets me know I have enough cord length.

Doing all this before i unhitch makes it easier to move unit if something isn't right.

Guess it might be a silly question,, but we have a class A now,,, hopefully a TT someday... Is there a reason you unhook the tow vehicle if you are only staying one night? I understand being level,, is this pretty much impossible while connected to the truck???

Monkey, There have been many times when I have left the tow vehicle connected to the trailer. I did however do my best to level side to side and font to back. I did this using a bottle jack under the hitch. that keeps pressure off of the coupler assembly. Also keeps the trailer close enough that I can use my 3K generator, that I keep in the back end of the pickup. Also, I did not see where when hooking up to the water supply, I always turn on the water to see if there is any dirt in the line before I hook up the hose. then after I hook up the hose, I turn on the water and get the air out of the hose then hook it up to the trailer.

Thankyou... Thats what I was thinking... IF we get a TT, I won't be without a genny... Its saved us more than once.... Also a good point about the water.. I learned that here on the forums. Now I always turn it on before hooking up the hose... A perfect spot for wasps etc to build nests in...

The travel trailer I had sat pretty level with the suburban tow vehicle. We spent a weekend in it still hooked up. I just ran the stabilizers down. Rule of thumb or so ive been told is if the trailer is not level enough to spend a night in you are doing it wrong. My 5-er sits way high in the front but trucks these days sit higher than they use to. Not much I can do about it.

here is the big first thing I do at EVERY camp site.

lysol the water connection
lysol the sewer connector
lysol everywhere the last campers touched....


wait 10 minutes then setup....

When hooking up to the water system, I use the blue water filter Walmart sells I also put the pressure regulator on the input end of the water filter. all that is on the trailer side of the hose, so the water filter can get rid of that plastic hose taste. Don't know why but even the rv hoses have that plastic / vinyl taste. The blue filter gets most of that out.

I do the same thing but never drink the water. We always bring bottled water from our filtered system at home and buy a few gallons of the supermarket brand water before we go.
