Camping in Zion National Park
We are planning a 3 week camping trip in October/November and one of the places we would like to spend about 3 days is Zion N.P. Utah. Would like full hookups and a good campground close to the beautiful scenery that I hear is in Zion. Any help will be appreciated.

Zion is beautiful however getting reservations this close is going to be tough. There's one campground at the south entrance and one (I know of) on the east entrance. There are a few places outside of the park that should be easier to get into. It's a very short drive to the park. If you're not familiar with zion, you park your car just after the entrance and then take the tram in. You can bring bicycles if you want to ride down the road. Very fun ride, but on the street only. No off road trails or riding. You cannot 'drive' in the park at all, but the trams run constantly. They drop you off at all the places to hike or nature walk. Some of the hikes are more like "Jr. Mountain climbing" and you'd better be in good shape.. and have a LOT of water. Drop me a pm if you have questions.

The park doesn't have any full hookup sites, but there are RV parks outside. This late you can call and see who has spots available? Springdale and Hurricane would be the towns to look at.

Sure you can drive thru Zion. Route 9 thru the park is one of the most scenic drives in the country. Check on height and length restrictions before attempting it.

The OP said he will be there in October and or November. You guys really think everything will be booked then?
Asking cause we intend to pass through in 2 weeks, and we don't have a reservation.

We were recently in Zion and the ban on vehicle traffic through the park may be lifted by late-October/early-November. The Zion Canyon Scenic Drive is accessible by shuttle bus only from March 15 to October 25 and on weekends in November.
I would recommend checking the Zion National Park website for more information and updates:

We stayed in Kanub while visiting Zion. A bit of a drive to the park, but close to those other things one might need. There is a small lot across the street from the Best Western (Thunderbird?) at the eastern terminus of route 9. Full hook ups, very cheap. I think one gets a free round of 9 hole golf to boot. All of the Utah National Parks are worth a couple days, at least. They are truly spectacular!
Route 9 has the tunnels that restrict the height of vehicles. They will close the opposing traffic to let tour busses, big coaches and 5vers through. I was happy to leave the coach on the other side of the tunnels and take the Jeep in.
We found the shuttle busses to be great - the best shuttle system in any of the parks.
Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy!!

Check this one out--we have stayed there several times when going to Zion and Bryce Canyon parks. Small, full hookups, peaceful and friendly.

Ken,
We stayed at the Watchman Campground for 3 nights. We did a lot of research and picked site B43 for the views. It was really great with easy access to everything.
I think it is well worth staying in the park. And don't miss driving through the Mount Carmel tunnel!

Ken,
My wife and I just returned from an outing at Zion National Park. We stayed at the Zion River Resort and it was terrific. The photo I've included was just taken there and here is their website. Hope you enjoy your trip
