Guess those weren't the ones I saw on southbound I-205
in Portland OR some years back then. It was two bikes, still securely attached to the mount, propped up against the guardrail.

If you're not pulling a 5th wheel or in a MH get a tailgate pad bike carrier. Very secure, won't damage your truck.

Otherwise, keep the bikes inside trailer or MH.

Only other suggestion would be to have a welding shop add some truss/gusset supports to the bumper. The small spot welds currently holding it on won't support much weight. And then get a platform style bike carrier. Bikes won't move around or bounce around with this style of carrier.

If it were me, I wouldn't. It may be only 80 pounds when the trailer is sitting still not moving but when that back end starts jumping up and down, that is a lot of stress on the welds that hold that bumper on.

I would check around at the local shops first and get some quotes to have a hitch added to the trailer frame.

I almost lost my bumper last year with nothing but the spare mounted on it. I don't trust my bumper at all now. The welds didn't fail.....it tore the bumper metal around the welds.
