My last long trip with the bumper mounted bike rack was with four bikes, the bumper mount spare tire AND a bumper mounted grill bracket from Atlanta to Savanah down I-16, which is about the bounciest road I know of.

Nothing broke and there were no cracks in any welds, etc.
I think the bumpers and welds vary from one unit to the next, but if you know welds and can rig something to limit the torsional twisting of the bumper, you can safely put a fair amount back there.

I would have no issues using this setup locally again, but for long trips, I put the stuff in the bed of the truck.

Sorry, been away...

Didn't mean to be a thread killer and/or shifter.

Only trying to help keep us all safe.

FWIW, Alloys and welding processes had nothing to do with my input.

The rest of you answered the root. No pun intended.

Best regards and safe travels!

I saw one on SR-12 through eastern WA. Guys cargo rack with Gen set mounted. Busted the welds securing the bumper to the frame. Started about a 100 acre fire in a farmers field. And burned up about a mile of wooden fence.

I have both a rack on the front of the TT for the generators, more info on the gen enclosure here:
and a receiver/rack on the rear. I have added a second spare and relocated the receiver to the center. I carry chairs and light stuff on the rear.
