catastrophe?
Ok, i've had a freak accident I need help with.

In a storm, I've had a tree branch fall on my rv and put a hole through the roof (all the way). My question is this something I should fix or file with insurance? Any ideas on how to patch this?

Yes, this is an insurance fix, best done by pros. It's going to be a lot more costly than you probably think. Good luck with it!

Definitely file an insurance claim. This is exactly why you have been paying those insurance premiums.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure this wasnt an easy fix before I took it in. I agree about missing the AC unit! Thankful for that.

I'd slap a piece of eternabond temporarily over that hole to prevent any further damage and then call the insurance company. Their policy may read you need to protect it from further damage.

I REALLY appreciate that as I am temp LIVING in it until I find a stickhouse! So it may be a month or more before I can get it into the shop.

How about both (Assuming you can do the labor yourself)
Many insurance companies now send an adjuster with a checkbook (more or less) they pay you what they think the damage is worth.. IF you have the skills you can do the repair for a fraction of that and pocket the profit. THIS IS NOT FRAUD so long as you do the repairs in a good workmanlike fashion (Properly that is).
I did that when a power line fell on my garage,, Damaged the siding,, As it happens I have the skills to fix it.. So not only did I fix it for a fraction of what I was paid, but I made some serious improvements in the garage at the same time (Added windows, it had none, now it does, quarter inch thick plexiglass windows full length you can actually SEE in side the thing now without electric light!!!)
Of course it's now the bank's garage, but that's their problem.

Finally got up on roof. More serious than I thought. 3 holes, not just 1. After pulling out the branch from my roof, I cleaned with acetone and borrowed some eternatape from a fellow rv vet. Just in time for tonights storms which are already brewing. Thank goodness for kindness in fellow rv'rs! Also thanks for everyone's advice! Megahelp!

I agree. Do whatever you have to do to keep water out. FYI, a new EPDM roof installed will cost around $5000.00 depending on the size.
