In the past I used a simple farm tarp; held firmly in place with elastic cords placed about 3' apart. I used a tarp large enough to cover half-way down the sides and ends. I purchased those "add-a-grommet" plastic ones that are removable, and enough elastic cords to do the job. I never found any wear spots or chafing on the trailer during the years I used a tarp. The tarp required replacement about every 4th year due to sun-rot.
My initial cost was about $100 for a 20'X50' tarp, elastic cords, and those add-a-grommet things. A tarp to cover your trailer might cost $15-$20.
