Don't worry. i'm insured ! Maybe if i fall off i can get a little extra in the insurance settlement to afford a topper. I sure would like one, i"m not against them at all, just, other places i would rather spend the money, like using our TT !!!

As you can see it's personal choice. I've always had sliders. Problem was when camping when the heavy wind came up. That can be violent. Then if it should snow the weight of the snow pushed down the topper so that I could not retract the slide. The current 5er doesn't need toppers. There is no flange at the end of the slide to trap debris when retracting the slide. The 'wiper' on top of the slide just pushes debris off the end. There is also a potential problem if the topper is too tight that it could make the slide difficult to pull in.

So, it is still personal choice.

I did not think they were any big deal. Our outback had one big topper over the single slide. Then we purchased a Coachmen with three slides and no toppers. The AC could not keep up with the extra heated surface. While at the beach, we had to retract our slides when we left for any period of time, in order to keep the TT cool. Granted, the extra space only came with an extra 2000 BTUs (13,000 to 15,000). You could feel the heat in the slide outs during the heat of the day.

Good point ! Hadn't thought about toppers and the wind, we lost an awning on our first TT. Was a nice day, we were just running up to Walmart !!! In the next hour, one hell of a storm blew through, got back to the TT, and even though i dropped one corner a lille, we had a nice Twisted , bent, V shaped awning.

Lucky i carriy a Cordless Recipricating Saw and was able to cut it off, for the return trip home.

So Matrix, never leave without retracting your awning !!!! In MHO !!!

Hey Jim, that's always been my concern. The 2016 Lance 1995 TT that we just bought has an automatic rollback in when it senses the wind is too great. It does it with or without you to protect the awning. A great little feature if you ask me.

We have had two issues with no cover over our slide. We camped in the fall and had two inches of leaves settle on the slide. We had to stand on the tail gate with a broom and brush them off. More recently we were camped in the the mountains in NM and had 2 inches of snowfall. When we pulled the slide in it was stopped by a mound of snow that I had to remove. Fortunately I had a small ladder with me.

There is always something, small twigs, acorns and other duffle sneaking past the seal. my next TT will have a slide topper cover.

Thank you that really helped me decide for sure that I want the Slide topper.
