Just watched a 20/20 show on CBS about how to read the date a tire was made. Apparently a tire is only really good for 6 years from the date it was made. A lot of tires are older being sold as "New" tires. Yes, they are "New" but not safe. Some are even 12 years old before being purchased. the last group of numbers on the side of the tire is the key> 219 means 21st week of 1999. 0101 means 1st week of 2001. Get it....So before you buy check the date the tires were made. It could save your life or one of your loved ones life.

This has been discussed for a couple years now by RVers. Some links for tires are:

tire tech, by tire rack
tire markings
tire cracks, by tire rack
The tire rack website is an excellent site for tire information.
