Hello all.

Again a question from Europe.

In Holland we need a special drivers license to tow more then 7000 Lbs. Is there a special type of DL in the US for towing a TT or is weight not really an issue.

Also for our trip in 2015 I'm looking at some brands of used TT's and found this one on craigslist. It's not on our schedule yet to buy one but just want to know if this one would be a good choice. It looks good to me and the price too.

No special license to tow a TT here. Can't help with a TT choice, never owned one. No doubt some will be along soon to help.

There are no weight restrictions as far as I know And I've been towing for about 35 years.

The big question is what size truck or car you are going to use to tow a trailer.

I couldn't say if that's a good deal on the trailer as I haven't been in that market for several years.

The main weight restrictions are at 10,000lbs combined and at 26,000lbs. At 10,000lbs if you are towing commercial, you need a medical card and fill out log books. At 26,000lbs you need a class A license.

However since RV's aren't commercial and only recreational. Anything under 26,000lbs only requires a standard class C license.

I think your license is considered a Class C when coming to the states, but you will need to check with your travel websites. I know when i flew into Belgium, my class C license was fine to use for up to a year i think. I drove through the Netherlands and into Germany in a Fiat Punto. It's the shame that the car's max speed was so limited, i think it was only like 130-140kmh on the autobahn.

That is a true shame, you should have rented a something with more speed and enjoy the no limit the fullest. It's one of the few fun things Germany has to offer. LOL

Maybe that the restrictions will be a requirement of the , state / province where you register your vehicles.
Here in B.C. 10,000 + lb trailer requires, licence up grade.
Once you know where you'll be licencing your vehicles, this would be a question for the local DOT, or MOT who ever issues the plates.

The laws vary by state. It depends on what state you get your license in.

As noted, the laws vary according to the state that issues the license. Most do not require anything over the standard vehicle class license for that size trailer.

Once you go over a 10,000# trailer the rules change, depending on the GCWR of the truck.

Texas requires a yearly safety inspection on any trailer over 4500#...$12.50 cents. The biggest hassle is finding an inspection station that you can get the rig into.

Next, I hope that you are looking at a full 1/2 ton vehicle with a towing package for the trailer.
