Driving on I-40

I have a question about driving I-40 threw the mountains from NC into TN I have a Chevy 2500hd and would be pulling a 34 TT weighing 6800 pounds. I Don't think I would have any problems towing except going threw some fuel and it is a major interstate. Or would it be better to go south and avoid it. travel time would be about the same for me. I am new to all this not planning on doing this any time soon so I will be getting my towing practice down before I plan this trip. Thaks for any info or advice.

You should have plenty of ponies for pulling the hills, but braking coming down the other side is where I would be concerned. Are the trailer brakes up to snuff?

Great looking rig bwhunter! Although that drive through the country side would be much prettier, I can tell you the interstate is going to be a heck of a lot easier.

I40 is interstate and with some pretty steep grades

Yeah that's why I was wondering if I should avoid it and drive down south a little it would be about the same mileage and time for me if I were to go the other way.

where are you headed and where are you leaving from ? That makes a big difference.

Hi bwhunter. I live just outside the yadkin rd. gate. You should be ok going out I-40 with you unit. I pull a 36 ft fifthwheel with a Dodge 3500 fatboy in the mnts with no trouble. Just take you time going down and dont get your brakes too hot. Good luck and maybe see ya camping somewhere.

You should be fine on I-40 I travel it a lot with my 2500HD with the Duramax. I have a 26ft TT and she weighs in at 9600lbs so you will be fine just take your time and enjoy the scenery through the mountains.

Thanks all for the input when the times comes will double check my brakes on both TT and truck.

Moving West to East coming down Black mountain will be the biggest test of your brakes. Just keep her at 35 mph using the engine as much as possible and you'll be fine.

Additionally, you will find the winding curves a little intimidating when an 18 wheeler is flying by you at the same time you're navagating the curves and going thru the tunnels.

I 40, no question, especially pulling an RV. If you have a D/A, it'll be easy.
