Drone to inspect the RV roof?
I'm just curious to see if any of you use a drone to inspect your roof on the travel trailer. You know it blows so much air down it could be used to blow off leaves before you bring in the slides. Just a thought.

A drone will never see the tiny sealant defects that are water leaks waiting to happen. You need up close eyeballs to see that.

Hmm, I can just about hear the conversation with the Keeper of the Accounts.
Me - "Honey can I get a drone to inspect the roof of the coach and to help blow the leaves off it."
Her - "No (EDITED BY MODERATOR) way. You were just up on the roof acting like some (EDITED BY MODERATOR) King of the Hill or something. Have you been drinking again?".

Drone camera will miss things the human eye can see. To blow leaves off, sure. But to inspect the part of the coach that keeps things dry? You could easily miss something.
Of course, if you simply need to justify one of these toys, then don't worry about opinions and just go buy one!

Hey!!! What are you doing asking my wife if you can have a drone??? Well... at least you got the same answer, word for word, I might add.

True that--a few weeks ago Texas state park ranger at Guadalupe river st park told him he had to get permission in advance to fly it in the park.

Hi Brian. In general, no. However; you can see if it is time to clean your solar panels! :-) Of course, it depends what you inspecting - I'm thinking sealant and minor cracks/issues would be impossible to see.
Here is a quick video I just put together so you can see what can be seen doing a low pass with a P3P. Be sure to select HD 720 HD if you watch it.

If it wasn't so windy right now (in NM), I'd try the inspection idea and upload that video too. Maybe tomorrow if there is interest - obviously much closer and less movement. Note that the P3P records video in UHD 4K quality which is stunning! So, if looking for a reason to buy one - that's it!!

Tried it but didnt see enough to be useful. Was up there this last weekend and almost fell off trying to wash it. Damn that white powder can get slippery....

Ok Brian, the following is a snippet from this mornings inspection experiment. I could tell that I need to do some caulking repair around the shower sunroof. However; the video is generally not worth much, at least compared to actually putting one's eyeballs on the roof. The camera on the P3P isn't really for closeup work so you have to get it right on top of what you are filming - this is difficult to do with a multi-thousand dollar piece of equipment. The platform is very stable - however; not quite stable enough for close up work.

Thanks JD. It clearly shows some promise for the future, but the tech is not quite there yet to replace what the human eye can see.
I can see where in the future, we'd have little insect like robots crawling around instead something flying. Less energy needed, and a close inspection with very good future camera tech would be easier, too.

Yes, definitely! They'll probably have a small tube of Dicor and fix little cracks as they find them too!
Actually, come to think of it, I could use one with a bottle of window cleaner to keep my solar panels clean.
