Dually pulling tt
I purchased a forest river 26bh tt, no slides and quickly realized that my half ton pickup did not tow or brake safley so i started looking for a new tv. Long story short is i found a used diesel dually. Am i safe in assuming i will need only a anti-sway now that a dually will be pulling the trailor? TIA!

What 1/2 ton did you have? Is the 26bh about 4500lbs, or did I look at the wrong numbers?

Possible if the tongue weight is under your hitch spec. I think my hitch spec is 500lbs. Equally important is how much the loaded trailer affects your suspension. Measure the front fender height to determine this effect. Your truck might have a spec for before and after difference in front fender height. My experience says anything over 1 inch difference requires a weight distribution hitch.

You probably won't NEED it but it will always pull better with a W/D sway control hitch.

I went the same route as you except a 6,000# trailer (the one in my avatar). I traded a 1/2 ton Titan for a 1 ton diesel dually. I had to air up my air bags to 40#on the Titan to bring the truck to level, not so on the Ram. I had the WDH with anti-sway so I used it but I felt it probably wasn't necessary. Never towed without it except to move the trailer around the yard so maybe not the best advice. You are going to love the difference when towing between the two trucks.

If the TT is properly balanced and you're under your receiver ratings then no you don't need it.

I ran it over the scale loaded and was at 6972lbs. My 5.3 chevy with 373 gear ratio does not like pulling it one bit

Tounge weight doesn't even move the suspension on the dually. Should be ok I'm guessing.

I'm a Chevy guy, but the 5.3L is somewhat of a gutless motor. What year model is yours? I had a 2004 that hated towing my parents Heartland 21FX that was only about 5,000 lbs loaded.
My Ram 1500 pulls my new Soliare 267BHSE with ease. It's about 6,500 lbs loaded. You don't need a 2500 or 3500 for a 7,000 lbs travel trailer.
I would look at a Hemi, Ecoboost, Ford 5.0L V8, Chevy 6.2L, or new Chevy 5.3L with the max trailer package. Any of those should tow your TT just fine. If you're going to be towing all the time, a 3/4 ton would tow it more comfortably. A dually 1-ton diesel is complete overkill for that rig, but it'll work if that's what you want to do.
