Dumb question - Need advice regarding slide

I am about to move my TT to an indoor storage facility.

The storage spot is only 14' feet wide with a 12 ' door.

So my question is can a slide be left partially open for extended periods of time or will this harm the TT, we wont be walking on the slide part, but just having extra room when we need to put something in the trailer would be nice without having to open and close the slide all of the time.

Sorry for the dumb question.

Thanks

It won't harm anything just like having it out just not all the way out.

When we are parked in barn at home, the slide is out quite often.

I leave our bedroom slide out about halfway when stored at home and haven't had a problem with it.

Leaving the slide partially open shouldn't hurt anything mechanically. But when it's partially open, check the seal around the slide room to be sure there is not a big enough gap to allow critters to sneak inside the camper. The big LR slide on my 5er seals good when either closed or all the way out, but when partially open there are gaps or soft areas in the seal gasket - especially at the bottom corners - that would be a great place for mice or other critters to enter.

I'm curious. If unit is in storage, why would the slide be out at all? Seems to me, critters could get in if half open and UV/weathering to the seal if outside. I don't know, but I close mine in storage.

The only thing I've read about this is a statement from one slide mechanism manufacturer that said to fully retract or extend the mechanism before reversing directions to prevent damage. That said, we have done what you suggest with one noted issue. The slide mechanism has enough slack in it to make the slide room wiggle (for lack of a better word) when reversed from partially open. I've had to replace the shear pin/bolt on that mechanism once, but never found a definite cause.

rhks....we leave the slide open a lot to allow us to get in the back of the rig and also to dry out the slide topper if we were camping during a rain storm and it wasn't dry when we put it away.

Hi drakethib,
Just remember there is no such thing as a Dumb question on this Forum. If that was the case everyone of us would be asking.I really agree with post about the critters getting in because I had a problem once with squirrels. They can really make for a bad day with the wiring harness.Good Luck and have Many Safe and Happy Travels.
