I have a question about the equalizer on a two axle system. I replaced all the springs, shackle links and bolts. I ordered the E-Z Flex equalizer kit, using the number off the old standard equalizer. The problem is the equalizer does not set level one eye is up almost to the frame and the other is down low. I thought that when I took it out on the road they would level out but not. Is it a problem and how would I fix it?

PS Notice that nice new tread.

Well I have an answer and it is going to cost me about $200.00.

When I broke several springs on vacation in West Yellowstone and had to run to Idaho Falls to get parts I did not have a lot of time and experience so even though the broken springs measured just a bit over 26 inches still mounted on the trailer they are 25 ¼ inch long I purchased four 26 inch springs. So today while I was installing new wheels with the new tires remounted I played a bit with a second bottle jack and lift up on the axle or spring eye. What I noticed is when I forced the equalizer level the top leaf of the spring would separate the springs are too long.

The 26 inch 6 leaf double eye spring is rated at 7000 lbs and the 25 ¼ inch 6 leaf double eye spring is rated at 3300 lbs. I sure would like to keep the higher springs but there is no smaller equalizer than the one I have and the tires are less than 2 inch gap.

So tomorrow I have in will call four 25 ¼ inch springs, should not take too long to change since I am getting good on jacking up the trailer and all the hardware is new so unless a bolt seizes up I should have it done in a few hours and hopefully I will have it fixed once and for all. I have learned a lot about trailer suspension.

Also I have found a great company in Phoenix for parts and they have a group of catalogs on line that have a lot of information in them in PDF. Auto Safety House
